SPORTS DAY: 16TH MARCH

On March 16, 2023, at Stadium MPAJ, red, blue, yellow, and green flags flew for the Houses of Delima, Nilam, Ambar, and Zamrud for UIS KL’s first annual Sports Day, and what a day it was! Before the competition began, each house marched proudly past the grandstand, followed by cheerleading squads who pumped up the students with their awesome routines and chants, and ended in the singing of the national anthem and a pledge to good sportsmanship. The incredibly eager Early Years runners were first up, and after a couple of false starts, had a few teachers chasing them down the track so the race could start in earnest. The rest of the day saw students, teachers, and parents compete in races such as the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, and the 4x100m relay, as well as the tug of war and a telematch race, to earn points for their respective houses. When it came to the tug-of-war, our parents proved that sometimes ‘might is right,’ easily defeating the teacher’s team whose blood, sweat and tears were simply not enough on the day. Meanwhile, parents and students in the stands shouted and cheered over music, many even dressed for success in colour coordinated hats, ribbons, and shirts, lending the event an outdoor party atmosphere. The excitement, team spirit, and absurdly high winner’s rostrum, all contributed to making the day truly memorable. Congratulations to all of our UIS KL athletes who exemplified true sportsmanship, especially House Nilam, which earned the most points and the title of ‘Champion’ for their outstanding efforts.
