Iain Slade

Iain Slade is an experienced international educator, and is originally from Bristol, UK. After graduating in 1993, Iain worked in a research laboratory in Bristol before completing his Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in 1995 from the University of Bristol – in Chemistry and Science education for ages 11 to 19. In the last 27 years, Iain has worked in several successful schools, both in the UK and Internationally, holding various positions including Head of the Science Faculty, Director of Science Specialism, Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, Deputy Headteacher, as well as school Principal. Iain has worked with many different school curriculum models including the IB Diploma programme, Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level programmes. He has worked and lead both small independent schools and large school groups such as the Dulwich College International in China. Iain has successfully completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) in the UK in 2015. Prior to joining UCSI International School Subang Jaya, Iain served as School Principal at the Jogjakarta Community School, Indonesia, where he worked from 2020.

In 2019 Iain was awarded a Fellowship of the Chartered College of Teaching in the UK as recognition for his ongoing contribution to the teaching profession specifically in education literature. Iain has also completed an MBA (with Merit) in International Educational Leadership from the University of Cumbria, Robert Kennedy College, UK. In May 2022, Iain was awarded a second Fellowship by RSA, the royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce, for his ongoing contribution to society in the field of education.

Iain’s educational philosophy is, one of inclusion and global mindedness (having successfully undertaken the rigorous CIS course ‘leading schools interculturally’) whilst maintaining academic rigor and access for all; he says, ‘I am pleased to see that the UCSI critical characteristics mirror my own beliefs and philosophies on education and look forward to us all developing these together.’ The eight learner characteristics are of particular interest for Iain, and he looks forward to developing these in UCSI International School Subang Jaya over the coming months.

In his personal time, Iain spends his time with his wife Eliza, and they keep themselves busy with their three children participating in various activities – mostly traveling and sports: football, rugby, cricket, as well as water sports (surfing, scuba diving and sailing). Iain is a keen skier and loves to travel to places to find new skiing opportunities – as well as undertaking trekking expeditions; having previously spent summers trekking in the Indian Himalayas for six weeks and most recently Cotopaxi in Ecuador for a month. Iain enjoys reading travel literature and listening to live music whenever he can. Iain looks forward to immerse himself into the rich life and culture of USCI International School Subang Jaya as well as the UCSI community as Principal, and the community of Kuala Lumpur as a whole.
