JOHN BARRATT

Mr. John Barratt is an experienced educator with a teaching career spanning over 25 years in diverse schools, countries, and curriculums. He has taught in state government systems in Australia and the UK, as well as international schools across the Middle East, Thailand, China, India, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Mr. Barratt’s teaching experience covers a wide range of curriculums, including the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE, A-Levels, Australian syllabi, various US state curriculums, and regional curriculums. His diverse background enables him to compare educational systems and integrate current research to achieve optimal learning outcomes.

Originally from NSW, Australia, Mr. Barratt pursued a unique career path before earning an Honours degree in science teaching and a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Administration. He began as a Science teacher in the NSW government sector and later moved to Queensland. After several years, he transitioned to international teaching, witnessing significant success with students and embracing his role as a global citizen, sharing broad perspectives with teachers and students.

His teaching philosophy revolves around empowering all students to reach their full potential, with high expectations set for both teachers and students, and a strong emphasis on placing learning at the core of the profession. As a leader, Mr. Barratt focuses on the “big-picture” and prioritizes administrative matters to facilitate the school’s growth and success.

Beyond the classroom, he is an outdoor enthusiast and leads expeditions, encouraging students to pursue out-of-school awards like the Duke of Edinburgh, fostering valuable life skills.

Prior to joining UCSI International School Subang Jaya, Mr. Barratt remotely managed a preschool in Vietnam, which he co-founded, and worked with Education Queensland, examining education trends. He is dedicated to upskilling teachers through continuous professional development, leveraging his knowledge and expertise.
